Ooh, I just read at www.mugglenet.com about the new book: "Scholastic announced today that the US edition of Deathly Hallows will contain 784 pages, making it the second longest book in the series behind OOTP! Since the US versions of the books are published in a larger font and contain chapter pictures, this should mean the UK version will be around 700 pages long. The US version of the book will have an initial print-run of 12 million, and the publisher has also revealed that each of these copies "will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste (pcw) fiber." The President of Scholastic Trade Publishing and Book Fairs said, "Scholastic worked hard with our suppliers and the Rainforest Alliance to secure this extraordinary amount of recycled and FSC certified paper for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision." That's great! I was so worried that the new book would be shorter than the others. Phew! xo

OMG I was just thinking about it this morning when I woke up... it's not far away now. I'm surprised it's not going to be the longest one of them all. In a way I'm glad but in a way I'm disappointed.
ack it's just all too exciting.

Of course! I'm sad too. I'm worried about who will die too. I hope it's not Harry but I can see why she'd want to kill Harry off if she doesn't want *anyone* else writing about Harry anymore. They could always bring him back from the dead a la Pet Sematary though. xo

I'm kinda bummed about the UK kids version because that's the one that's always released first here, and I think the US version is cooler. hahah oh well.

Just read this about a possible 8th book? ? www.stuff.co.nz/4059263a4501.htmlThe "a kind of encyclopedia of the world so I could use all the extra material that's not in the books" part makes me think of something along the lines of your Discworld and LOTR guidebooks etc. Oh well, interesting to see what comes of it, if anything.

For anyone who reads from this point on, just be warned: there will be spoilers[/size] So.... I'm happy she didn't kill Harry, Ron or Hermoine. I cried over Dobby though, and various others as they died - mostly Lupin and Tonks and poor Fred.. how sad So glad Snape ended up being a good guy after all. At the end of HBP I didn't want to believe that he was really evil. I figured Dumbledore had to know that Snape would have to kill him - and sure enough he did but wow, I never thought the ring was slowly killing him anyway! What a sad life Snape had I cried at the end when Harry told his son that he was the bravest man he'd ever known. I dunno what else to say.. my hands are cold, it's too early in the morning.

I thought the same thing about Snape, that Dumbledore told Snape to kill him. It just would've been too easy to have him be this undercover bad guy the whole time. I never would've guessed he was in love with Harry's mum though! My heart broke a little bit reading those parts.
When I got to the part about Fred dying, I had to stop for a few minutes because I was crying so much I couldn't see. I was really worried J.K. was going to kill off Hermione while Bellatrix was torturing her, so I'm really glad that didn't happen.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the book. I think I'm going to read it again, but slower this time. lol

Yeah I want to read it again soon too. My sister came round and grabbed it last night though. Aww yes it was so upsetting when Fred died Poor George. I wonder if he carried on with the joke shop after that.. I guess so. I also had to keep putting the book down when Dobby died because I kept crying. It was that whole pattern of stop, get tissue, calm down, read some more, stop, get tissue again... hehe. I also cried at some of the non-death parts like when Percy showed up!! and at the end when Harry told his son Snape was the bravest man he knew... aww And Neville is my hero ;D

just finished... and just stopped crying!!! i barely know what to say because i haven't really had time to process it all yet. i'm also really glad that harry, ron and hermione all survived. somehow i knew they would but i was so nervous. and when i read about how harry would have to die, i sobbed forever! after that chapter, with the whole snape explanation i went to bed and had harry potter dreams all night! fred's death killed me. that made me really sad. and BOTH lupin and tonks? that was pretty awful too. as for snape, i always had a feeling he was good. even through the whole book, while part of me was saying that here was proof positive he was actually a bad guy, i couldn't really let myself believe it. i knew she wouldn't have had dumbledore saying in every book that he trusted snape without an explanation. the whole thing with him, lily, etc was really sad though. oh man. i'm so sad it's over. i cried through the entire epilogue too! maybe i'm just a bit extra hormonal today? i think i'll wait a while and then maybe read them all again, knowing what i know. could be interesting. *sigh* i told my boyfriend last night (when he was making fun of my sniffling as i came to bed!) that it's like the neverending story. you feel so a part of it and this world and these characters. i can't believe it's all over... *sigh* again...

I can't believe we're still in page one of this thread! I finished it yesterday... took three days, didn't read it in one go... but all in all, enjoyed. The deaths for some reason didn't make me cry. It was all just, well, ok now this and that characters is lying strucked down in the mids of battle... no details, no emotions I guess. As I knew there was an epilogue (and somewhere I had let myself be spoiled of seeing the name Albus Severus), I knew Harry was not gonna die after all, still the only part that brought tears to my eyes was when he walked with James, Lily, Sirius and Lupin to face his end. Also, maybe I wasn't so concentrated in the book that would have been emotionally swept away by it. I notice that when things start to happen (as it does practically in every chapter of this book, whew! There wasn't a plan that wasn't intervened by DEs crashing the party), things happen very fast, so I had to reread some lines just get back on track of what just happened. To me it was some how obvious all along that Snape had loved Lily, no big shock there. And I knew there had to be some twist to him killing DD, but I didn't suss out that DD would be dying anyways... although of course should have the way his hand had been referred to as "looking dead" all through the HBP. I was so looking forward to the bit of "who is able to do magic later in life though not before", and it just wasn't in the book... I looking it up just now asn it seems it's just something JK said in an interview in 99(!) and the fans took it as it will definitely be revealed by the end of the series kind of thing... Finding out more about DD's family and past was interesting, would love to read the "Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore", even if it's not based on facts... J.K. should write that. Snape's memories were also great, maybe the best part of the book. Now that I have read some comments from other fans, I have to agree with those who said that epilogue was too thin... so what are they doing for professions? what about Luna, George, Percy...everybody else? who cares about Malfoy!
