Elizabeth started a winter-reading thread earlier, so to continue on that...
What do you consider best for summer reading?
In Finland, the libraries report a huge increase in loans from the mystery/thriller/detective novel section for summers: it seems that those genres are the choicest to bring along to the summer cottage or the beach. I kind of understand: when it's really hot I don't feel like delving into something really heavy, and a lot of detective novels are not too difficult to follow, yet are interesting.
This summer I have been mostly reading all kinds of non-fiction, dealing with how to raise children without a TV. Also, I've been reading about crocheting and knitting (not that I want to knit at a beach). It's basically stuff that I thought I'd like to know more about but haven't had the energy to look into during working weeks.

something about trashy "girl" novels are really appealing to me in the summer. the bridget jones type genre. i actually don't read much of them at all but when i think of summer/beach reads, they fit the bill. or harry potter, harry potter, harry potter!
