I don't know. Maybe we're all really fuckin' angry about where we came from. I know I am! I'm from Wisconsin. LOL!! *spits out mouthful of 'Oishi Mizu'* Caz, you sounded really Australian in my head when I read "fuckin' angry". Hee I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I do love my city. It has arts, theatre, great local music, an international comedy festival every April, and some lovely leafy suburbs (hello, Hawthorn), but the price of housing just keeps going up....ugh. Melbourne is well-known as a multi-cultural city. My dad and his family emigrated from Greece in 1956. Then he met my lovely Australian mummy (though they divorced, lol). I have lived in Tokyo, Japan for three years from 2000 to 2003, and, after a rather strong desire to return, I am now living in Kashima, Ibaraki prefecture, in the east of Honshu. I came back in February. I will probably return to Melbourne in February 2008, when my contract finishes. However, I can't say for sure if I'll last that long, as the waves of homesickness engulfing me come with disturbing frequency. I never expected this. Japan plays Australia on the 12th of June for the soccer world cup. YIKES.

i'm from pittsburgh, pa and i haven't been around to this board in AGES so hi everyone!!!
pittsburgh is a medium-sized city and it's not a bad place. some people still think it's a dreary steel town (used to be back in the 70s-80s) but it's really growing. i've lived here forever so i'm not crazy about it but people who visit always tell me they're pleasantly surprised.
though there are a bunch of twatty meatheads who like to chant "here we go steelers" (our football team) at ANY opportunity... like, say, the encore break of a concert! it's so sad...
j- you're back in the states??? will you be making it over to the east coast any time this visit??? miss ya!!!!!

I'm from Brooklyn, New York although I'm a new resident because up until 2 months ago I was living in a mostly unheard of borough called Staten Island...and that's where I spent my entire life.

Staten Island isn't unheard of, just a pain to get to/from!!

hello *waves back*
i guess unheard of is a bad choice, but from my experience people outside of metro area really haven't heard of it since it's not as well known...
and it is certainly a pain to get to if you don't drive...and although i'm a native i don't drive...i hate it with a passion.

Yeah, I was glad that I could ditch my car when I moved to the city. On occasion, when I want to leave the city (or when I want to sing along w/the radio at the top of my lungs without bugging anyone ), I do miss it.

I have heard of Staten Island through John Lennon! Hee.
Jess! Whoo! I'm in the States right now but no East Coast trips this year. We're not staying that long plus there's a huge family reunion going on here, so anyone who we know from East Coast family-wise will be here... I will get onto a good email to you ASAP!

Hey, come on Jenni, even though it's so small no one's ever heard of it you can mention the name of the place too... Wonder how I've missed this one... still not around here too often... anyways, I'm from another small university town in Finland, Jyväskylä which I guess is a bit bigger than the small uni town Joensuu where Jenni lives... and I was born and lived until 19 in a yet smaller place than Jenni about one hour away from hers...

I have been in Baltimore, MD for three years now. I live about 20 minutes from Camden Yards if you take the train. There are lot of clubs, and great place to eat. That's about it.
I spent most of my growing up in Taney-town, MD, a town no one's ever heard of, or if they have they laugh. It was just added to the map 3 yrs ago! lol, and it's been around since the Battle of Gettysburg! It was the kind of town where everyone knows you, and your business. I'm glad I left, and don't ever want to move back.
