So you heard I crossed over the line Do I have regrets? Well, not yet There are some Some who give blood I give love I give
Soon before the sun Before the sun Begins to rise I know that I I must give So that I I can live
There are some Some whose give Twists itself to take They mistake Who, what made up the line Some say it was pain Or was it shame
Soon before the sun Before the sun Begins to rise I know that I I must give So that I I can live
Some Some who give blood I give love I give
I think this is about different kinds of giving. The line "There are some, some whose give twists itself to take - they mistake." is about how some people think that by giving they will receive, and that's not always the case. This song is a little hard to figure out what the exact message is for me at least. It makes me think of sexy vampires because of the "soon before the sun begins to rise" and the talk of blood. It's a really haunting song so that works.
What are your thoughts?

I think it s about acting out of love rather than out of fear or gain. It s incredible how we can do the exact same action but the motivation behind it be so different. And i think it makes a world of a difference when you realize the difference.
I also think that it s a reocurrent theme of this album the choice between fear and love. Between staying in the darkness or bathing in light.
Also, when really hard core stuff happen to you, sexual assault and abuse of the type Tori refers to many times in Little earthquakes, there s a period of huge anger, and huge darkness, and also feeling like a victim.... and i think that there is a moment..although it feels like ages until you can get there, if you ever get there.. but there is a moment where you chose the light again, bring the power back to you, and let go of the victim identity you took on. Because although there was an abuse of power and other sorts, and you were a victim in that moment, carrying the identity with you years later was also a choice in some way. An endless repetition of events that sucks the life out of you and makes you feel like on repeat. Sometimes i even thought it had it s own life, will and agenda and that i wasnt in control of anymore. At least if you see it that way, you get the choice to let go of it, you bring the power back to you again, and by having that power over you again, you can move on... giving out of love rather than out of fear.... so that you can live...
And that s how understand the verse :
Soon before the sun Before the sun Begins to rise I know that I I must give So that I I can live
..... I also want to thank you Julie, for having posted so many songs and interpretations. They have been really helpful for me, especially at a very dark moment in my life. It felt like having a friend to be able to talk about my favourite artist ... and one i feel so close to. So thank you! It s made a huge difference in my life to me.

Hey, no problem! I'm just glad someone's reading these. I love interpretting Tori's songs and reading what other people think of them because they are very much like riddles that do have answers but are hard to figure out until you dig deeper. I will continue with this album as I had wanted to start doing.
