[I'm not in the mood to retype.. thank god for copy and paste]
Yesturday.. ugh. Today? eh so far. It's only 10am. Here's a visual interpretation of what I'm talking about:
My right foot is twisted.. see how it doesn't fully touch the floor? Well the Foot part is twisted and it will never be like my left foot - it won't have the same flexability as my left foot. It will forever remain stiff. They may do surgery just to keep it straight but that's it. It'll be straight but I won't be able to do the same 3 mile running I once did.
The scaring you see is from the Meningitis. Those are grafts where they took skin from my back and applied it to my legs. I know you're sorry but you'll be more sorry if you don't get your Meningitis Vaccine. Yeah, it's expensive but do you really wanna look like me? Yeah, I didn't think so either.

hugz what exactly is Meningitis? There are two types of Meningitis: Viral and Bacterial. I got the Bacterial. What it does is, there is infected fluid in your spine, which is how they figure out you have it, and often causes brain damage, blindness and or deafness. And or amputation of your legs and or arms. For me I didn't have any brain damage, blindness, [increased] deafness or amputation of some kind. I was already born hearing impaired, no big issue. But I had basically blown up into a burnt stuffed sausage as a result of complications and it went through my blood stream, causing all of the "burns." That's the scaring. My legs had much more scaring than my arms. Make any sense? How can you get it? Anybody can have it. It just depends on when your immune system shuts down or maybe slows down to a perfect spot and the disease is let go. The symptoms? MAJOR headache, vomiting, diareah, RASH, high fever, and weakness. Those were my symptoms and are pretty commom and mistaken for the flu. But believe me, something inside me kept saying "this isn't JUST the flu, it has to be something else." That's where I called 911 and all... Kate, why is your foot twisted? I'm sorry just had to ask. But don't be discouraged a huge hug from me for you, k It's twisted because of all cleaning of my dead skin as well as damage to my muscles and nerves. While it was healing, one muscle or tendon was "dead" and the other was healing, so the healed one did some extra pulling. It probably could have been prevented but they were more concerned about my legs than my foot. *phew* Did I answer everyone's questions yet??

Hugs for desperatefaery! What a rough time... I am not too good with words, but you are in my thoughts. I know a message board where burn victims chat. Though you did not get external burns, from the description it sounds similiar from burn-burns. No sweating or hair growth on the "burnt" skin, damaged nerve endings and muscle tissue, and the damaged skin does not grow/expand with the rest of your body, that is why the graftings are a neccessity? They are so painful too, especially back donor sites. Dammit, I cannot remember the name of the site where that message board is coz I haven't chatted there in a long while! I will try to find it again though. Until then, please take care and know that we are all thinking of you. Best wishes, *charlene

desperatefaery is right, if you haven't gotten the vaccination for it, it's a really good idea to get it. Especially if you are a college student (all of those people packed into the same place for months causes stuff like that to spread like wildfire). I got mine at my college and it didn't cost very much.
***BIG HUGS for desperatefaery!!***
