I love this thread ♥ Pascy, yep, I have a secret life, haha Paulsie, I can assure you, there is nothing about Japan that would scare you. Ok, maybe bumping into a Sumo in a dark alleyway might be, but hey, he's probably just lookin' for food! Stick with me, baby and you'd have a blast. Mayrs, that's a good sign about Stereophonics. Looks like I'll have plenty to listen to on the plane. I've also started reading 'Clan of the Cave Bear', so doubt I'll have the opportunity to get bored, yay!

Helen- Stella is a song from a group called Interpol. The album is Turn on the Bright Lights. Not sure if you've heard of them, but I highly recommend them. Not an easy listen at first (at least for me- kinda like how I was when I first heard Boys for Pele), but it grows on you fast. It's different, but good different.! Carly- Lovin' your new av/sig. I don't think I've ever heard Cat Power, but it's been on my list. I think I have a bit on my plate for now, though. haha, perhaps I should read page 2 responses before I reply to page 1 posts! Yeah, Helen, there you go! edit: And I would just like to second Sabsy's description of the band as not being an easy-listen. (Both albums, I'd say). They got compared (endlessly) to Joy Division when they first hit the scene (and in Stella, there are kinda copy-cat lyrics to a JD song). And there are definitely some similarities in sound. But I've been waiting YEARS for a band like this to come along - one that can take all the tension of guitar and drums exploding all over the place and make it so beautiful. There is something about the majority of their songs that tells me, when I listen to them, that the lyrics don't even matter - just the music is 'singing' in a way. I can't describe it. It's lush, it's pulsing, it's soft, it's creeping. It's everything all at once. And addicting! And the vocals are ... well, you gotta hear the sound to get it. And then, when I do hear the stories to the songs, I'm just... overwhelmed! And This is why I fell in love with "Stella". She was a "drowning-song" to me from the moment I first heard her musically. Some reviewer, I don't recall who, described the song as having 'an army of guitars' and that's exactly what it sounds like. It's very intense, but almost in a sinking way, like you are just drowning in the sound. I remember sitting there the first time I heard it, totally addicted, thinking 'wow' as the song kept going on. Then the 'broke away broke away' was like this huge release. Oh, Stella! And then when I met her in the words it was like I was looking in some kind of strange mirror. That's a personal connection to the song for me, sure. But the original connection to the music, on its own, is something I think anyone can get if they give the band a chance at letting their music do what music is suppose to do - make you feel something. Try them! Wow, that was amazing to read. Especially the mirror part. I can't really explain how I feel about the song yet. I think it knows more about me than I know about it!

Sabsy, do you know - I remember just about throwing Pele on the floor when I first heard it! Now she is like a dear, dear friend I remember the first time I heard it vividly. I was the same way. Now it's my favorite album.

LOL, rock on Pascal! Meanwhile, I'm thinking of changing my signature picture. Have been for a while now, as a matter of fact, but I can't find anything good enough to replace Kate Bush with unless.... it's more Kate Bush! i just gotta find a good picture and think of a smart song line. Give us an Army Dreamers pic and line. I've been completely obsessed with that song since I heard it for the first time about two weeks ago. Meanwhile, I've been planning to change my comic for several weeks, and I even know which one is coming next, but I never get around to it.

Well, this is my first post in the new 'whatever' thread, I've been extremely busy lately with school and many (long) rehearsals, so much that I hardly have time to check my e-mail! I just wanted to pop in on one of my favorite ongoing threads, but know that I read as much as I can (and often chuckle to myself at what I read) Hope all is well with everyone!
