Or better yet, do you even remember who she is? I seem to be the only one who's left with hope she's ever gonna release a new album (last one came out 10 years ago), but heck, if Paul Simon did it, why should she not?
Also, has Tori ever talked about Kate in any interview or wherever? There seems to be a strong connection between the body of work of the two of them, i.e., a lot of people see a lot of similarities, like, they both play the piano, have high pitched voices, are fake red heads and write cryptical lyrics. I'm a really big fan of both of them, so I definetely see a connection, but has Tori ever "officially" named Kate as one of her influences?

Several years ago after hearing from numerous sources that Tori had "stolen" Kate's style...I decided to buy one of her CDs, just to see for myself how similar they were.
Well, I didn't like what I heard. I didn't heart anything remotely Tori-ish...Kate reminded me more of Sarah Brightman, honestly. I just couldn't get into her at all.

That depends on which one of her albums you heard, her music changed courses many times during her carreer.
By the way, lovely signature, I love that song.

I'm surprised honeybee hasn't buzzed over here yet! I'm a brand new Kate Bush fan, thanks to her! I received "Hounds of Love" in the mail today - I've listened to it once so far and really like it. Um, I think I have the song "Breathing" too, which I LOVE after one listen.

Yep, I sent you Breathing, too!
Um, somewhere there is a thread that our beloved matze started about Kate. I'll try to dig it up. I specifically remember posting on there, along with bexface and I think Pinkdesaster, who I KNOW is a major Kate fan.
Hounds of Love is my favorite album of hers.

Kate is totally awesome. But Kate is not Tori, despite the obvious similarities. BTW: Hellfire and Honeybee have EXCELLENT taste!! I fell in love with Kate more than twenty years ago and bought the vinyl for The Kick Inside (where it all started; if you are looking for more after 'Hounds of Love', buy this one) Lionheart Never for Ever as well as a number of singles. That all eventually led up to Hounds of Love but then she tailed off after that with one more album, despite the help of Eric Clapton. I think I posted this all in a different thread. Still, doesn't hurt to repeat myself. KATE IS AWESOME!!

My favorite albums of hers are 'Hounds Of Love' and 'The Dreaming', but my favorite song is by far 'The Sensual World'. I have all her albums, by the way.

Yeah, I don't understand the comparison between Kate and Tori either. I mean, Tori can get high-pitched sometimes, but she usually shows a lot more range than that... Sadly, all the Kate Bush songs I've heard were just high-pitched nonstop. I would hopefully assume they're not all like that, but I wasn't impressed enough to find out otherwise.

The album I have is 'The Whole Story'...and I'm listening to it right now. I bought it about 5-6 years ago and haven't listened to it since then. Maybe something on this CD will grab me this time around. Right now, I'm on a song called 'Wuthering Heights'...and the song isn't too bad, but her voice is grating on my nerves...it's soooo high pitched! *sigh* I'm trying.

Ah, therein lies the problem. TWS is a compilation of hits, so mostly you only got the most commercial stuff. And ha, you think WH is high-pitched? And that's the new vocal version!!! If you heard the original 1978 recording then, you'd drop instantly dead from eardrum explosion, cuz she really sings like a cat having her tale chopped off without painkillers. I think it's part of her charm. From that album you don't get much of what she's really all about, you should listen to 'The Dreaming' (the album, not the same titled song included there) instead. But one of my favorite songs is in that album, the very last one. Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ya-ya... Lurv it!

I bought The Whole story last Saturday, I really like Wuthering Heights (I'd like to hear the original version), Babooshka (love it), Running up that hill (like the video too) and Sat on your lap (something about that song gets on my nerves and I love it, heehee). Also i've heard Violin and Pick the rare flower (B-side)

You should see the video for 'Sat In Your Lap'... You wouldn't sleep for a whole week! Meanwhile, if you wanna download a song to really go on your nerves (in a lovely way), try 'Get Out Of My House', it's the best.

Hey, Paulo!
I saw Kate's video collection and now I wonder which video "Sat in your lap" is? Is it the one where she moves in that big plastic ball ? I don't think it's freaky, though. In my opinion "Experiment IV" is much scarier. Do you like that ?

Hey Axel... No, the one you mean is 'Breathing', which I think is a video with a really cool concept. 'Sat In Your Lap' is the one in which she's, well, on the lap of a guy with a donkey head and rollerblades, and then you have these guys dressed in white with the 'D' cone in their heads - also in rollers - and Kate standing in front of a dark set with this... bluish cloudy revolving 'ball' behind her. Seriously twisted. And yea, course I like 'Experiment IV'! She can totally pass for a killer sound, can't she? Seeeeeeeriously twisted, lol.

I want to buy one. Which do you recommend me ? You know my "bad" music taste: Tori, Radiohead etc. I think "Never for ever" has great artwork!

Anyways, you're more of an underground guy like I am, so I think you should definetely go for "The Dreaming". I can assure you you're gonna like it. The whole album sounds like "Experiment IV", though that song only came out four years after that album.

But it has to wait a little cos I bought "Hail to the thief" today and I haven't got much money left. Do you know HTTT already? I think it's absolutely great. It even tops Kid A.

No, it's too expensive right now. Next sunday's gonna be my birthday, and I've included it in my wish list, I'm hoping someone's gonna give it to me. I don't think it'll happen, though. And by the way, after "The Dreaming" make sure you buy "Hounds Of Love", they complete each other. Get the 12-track original edition, not the 1997 re-released 18-track edition.

Yay, I liiike Kate Bush! I didn't read all the replies so I hope I won't be repeating stuff here, sorry about that. But I just got so excited! The thing about comparing Tori and Kate...well. Female singer/songwriters ALWAYS get compared to another. I don't like the way some put these two artists in the same slot, but there are indeed similarities (well, depending on what albums you have heard): 1)when it comes to playing piano, both Tori and Kate seem to like playing fifths a lot. 2)Both also seem to have minor 'asian' influences: listen to Crucify's "cha-ai-ia-ians' melodic pattern and, say, Army Dreamers from Kate. Not saying the songs are similar, but the style is there. 3)Kate was one of the first (to my knowledge, could be totally wrong) to include real people with their names in her songs - now do we know anyone who does this as well.... 4) each of their album is somehow different from the others: always new styles explored etc... I really respect Kate for what she has accomplished: she wrote Wuthering Heights when she was 17! She 'designed' all her shows by herself, dance choreography and all. I saw one of these shows and it was just exhausting - don't understand how she could maintain her clear voice and jump around at the same time... To me both Tori and Kate present kind of a 'woman power' - or just power, however you prefer: they have experienced various things and are not afraid to sing about them - or make good songs about stuff like favorite books, films or drugs. They haven't limited their repertoire to just songs of love. They keep on going. Both have more or less created their own styles (well, I say more or less, because no one can stay away from being influenced by something or someone else), been accused of being pretentious although the case has been more of being just honest, doing their own thing and not kissing butts There. Phew. So, great to hear that there are people who like Kate. The end.
