I have just recently (as in two days ago) discovered her, but I'm already completely stunned. I'm planning on buying the album tomorrow, and I'm totally psyched. The songs I have heard so far are amazing... Her style seems to be very soulful. It's like... white girl with the voice and spirit of a black woman in the 60's. Seriously. She's amazing, though - absolutely stellar voice. Wonderful. Fantabulous. I recommend her to most anyone, but at least a few of you (whether or not you read this) I will be sending copies of the CD to once I get it... hopefully you'll like it enough to buy it and support her I recommend, to anyone viewing this who hasn't heard her already, the following songs: All of them. Well, ok, to be specific: The Chokin' Kind, Fell In Love With A Boy, Victim Of A Foolish Heart.[/b] Yes, Fell In Love With A Boy[/b] is a cover of The White Stripes. But... it's not what you think. It couldn't possibly be what you think. LISTEN TO IT! Any other Joss Stone fans? Matty, I know you're going to comment on this, right...?

Ohh, I was hoping you'd post a thread about her! Mainly because I don't know ANYTHING about her and I want to be enlightened. So, thanks! Jay, I'll check her out asap. She sounds very interesting. Here's her website for anyone else: www.s-curverecords.com/joss/Here's her vid for Fell In Love With a Boy: www.vh1.com/artists/az/stone_joss/videos.jhtmlOh, and if I'm one of those 'peeps' you were thinking of sharing the music with, please hold off on sending me a full copy! I saw her cd in the store yesterday and I'll just go get my own copy if I like what I hear sampling, ok dear? (I have so much new music right now that I'm truly swamped... Plus I'd rather support the album directly by just buying it. I'll trust your good taste in music that it's something I should investigate. ♥ )

But the whole point was to get you to buy the album yourself, so I'll trust you to do that if you like what you hear via the samples, or any songs you download. Thanks for all the research, you're a stellar musical scholar I'll have to check out the video myself! I posted this thread after a long night last night, so I didn't feel up to any actual effort... (I'm going to buy the album today, and I told myself that if I do, I'm only allowed to do it on the condition that a) I listen to it fully with out stopping once today, and b) I clean my room the WHOLE time )

HOLY HOLY! She's amazing! Ohhh, I really like her voice! Very soulful and rich and EXTREMELY smoooooth. How can she only be 16?! I watched the 'Fell In Love With a Boy' video... I LOVE what she did with the White Stripes cover! Awesome! The feel/sound of the song reminds me a bit of India Arie, whom I also like very much. Jay, I read the vh1 blurb that explains how this album of cover songs was pretty much an accident in becoming her debut... interesting. She's got her own work, too, which I assume we'll be treated to on a sophomore release. (The end of the 'making of the Soul Sessions' video said it would be released in 2004... btw, watch it if you haven't... it's pretty cool to hear her Brit accent when she talks, then she instantly breaks into classic Aretha singin' RESPECT... so cool!) Quite an accomplishment for a 16 year old to take these little-known old classic soul songs and make them her own... makes me wanna track down the originals. And OMG, Betty Wright ('Clean Up Woman') was one of the producers of this album! I LOVE her! (she talks in that video about the experience... the whole studio experience in making this album looks so cool!) I heard clips of 'The Chokin' Kind' and 'Super Duper Love', too. Really liked them both. Here's a great review of the album at AMG, too: www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=UIDMISS70401151627591186&sql=A27rb282l052aRight, so obviously I'll be putting this on my wishlist. Sounds like an amazing album and I'll keep an eye out for her original works to be released, too. This girl's going somewhere, that's for sure. HEAR CLIPS FROM ALL THE SONGS ON HER ALBUM HERE: www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=product&id=1327392OmG, the album is only $8.99 at Best Buy!

PS- Jay, there's a Japanese release of the album that's got a bonus track, 'Player', originally done by the group First Choice in the 70s. It was their highest charting single. It's 7 minutes long! I'm interested to know what Joss did with that one. (couldn't find a clip for it anywhere). Alternative artwork/cover, too, look:

I'm so glad you've fallen for her like I have! Last night, I told the guy I was hanging out with "I've fallen in love with someone... I met her a few nights ago," and he was so confused hehe. But then I explained it. He's like "Where does she live?" And I'm like "Uh, on the internet, I guess?" lol. Her music just grabbed me the first time I heard it, I'm so glad it did the same for you! Thanks for all the helpful links, again - I'm gonna have to check it out. I can't tell you how much your enthusiasm and response to her is making me happy right now! I'll have to read that blurb, because my friend was all "Yeah, she's talented, but I can't consider her a musician if she doesn't write her own music." Which, first of all, is ridiculous - there are people who have so much talent but simply no drive or ability to actually write music, that doesn't mean they're not musicians - but it will be good to be able to tell her "HA! See! She DOES write her own stuff!" I totally agree about Fell In Love With A Boy[/b] sounding like India Arie. I was thinking Sunshine Anderson, too, have you heard her? I totally can compare them. As soulful as she is... that song is also quite funkalicious. Hooray for awesome music! This chatting on here is reminding me of something... one short PM coming up!

Jay, a few of the reviewers on Amazon commented on how this 'wasn't her own music' and shouldn't be taken seriously or whatever.... TOTAL RUBBISH! She does and AWESOME job. (other reviewers had praise, though, don't worry.) Anyway, I hope more people check her out. Carly and Trevor are just 2 people I think should definitely give her a listen if they haven't already.

Do that! btw, when you go there, LEFT-click the title, a new page comes up, then RIGHT-click the yellow 'download' button and then 'save target as'. I'm being specific because if you try to just right-click the link on the first page it won't work. Um, can I say one more thing again?! lol... She also has 2 singles from this album: Fell in Love With a Boy and Super Duper Love both are 2-track singles, with the first having a live version of one of the album songs, but Super Duper Love has a non-LP track (also live) of a song called 'It's A Man's Man's World'. Ok, info given. Now go discover how awesome she is everyone!! Wait a minute... Your love is SUPER!... your love is super duper I'm just tryin' to tell you...(SUCH A FUN SONG!)

She sings a few lines from All the King's Horses in that video on her site, btw. She does a super job with Aretha's song! I'm SO going to have to get this album! Ok, I'm leaving now, for real... things to do.. Jay, is your room clean?!

I'm gonna make sure my sis puts Joss's Super Duper Love on her song list for her wedding in October. That will be so fun to dance to! And I know she'll love it b/c she loves soulful music like that... Yay! I'm gonna have to tell her about this album.

Any other Joss Stone fans? Matty, I know you're going to comment on this, right...? of course i'm gonna comment on this, dear. i've been meaning to buy "the soul sessions" ever since i first laid ears on it, lol. unfortunately, my favourite cd store only lets you hear bits and pieces of each song, but what i've heard so far makes me crave for that cd even more. it's 13.99 at the moment, so i only need to wait for my next paycheck and i can finally buy it. so, i'll get back to you about this in a week at the max. btw, "the chokin' kind" definitely is my favourite so far.

I watched the 'Fell In Love With a Boy' video... I LOVE what she did with the White Stripes cover! Awesome! I think I might be in the minority here, but her cover of "Fell In Love With a Girl" just pissed me off and I haven't been able to get into her at all.

Miranda, I thought of you while I was listening to it! LOL I was wondering what you might think. You have a right to not like her. LOL But I look at it this way... she took a risk in taking that very upbeat well-known song and she completely 'soulified' it into something altogether different. I think she did a great job but I can understand how your love for the WS would make you think otherwise and be less appreciative of the fact that she DID make the song her own. Her album is ALL covers and strangely, I think this recent/modern song fits really well with the decades-old soul classics she chose. I wonder what Mr White thinks. heh...

I downloaded those 2 songs from Amazon, to get a taste before I ran out and bought her CD. Thank goodness...I really don't care for her!
