We went to see Jadesoturi (Jade Warrior) on Tuesday. It's the first Finnish kung fu movie, very weird indeed. It has Finnish and Chinese actors in it. Not really sure what to think of it, the plot was not impressive and some of the dialogue was just BAD... and Finnish actors speaking Chinese, a Chinese actress saying a couple words of Finnish was, um... interesting. www.jadesoturi.net

We went to see Casino Royal some time ago... actually we went to see another movie last week but it was a Finnish film and not worth mentioning. I am not usually into Bond flicks, but this one was pretty ok... maybe because this Bond didn't feel as big of a jerk as usually.

i saw Stranger than Fiction this past week and i was pleasantly surprised. when i read the plot i thought it was very interesting and i wanted to go just because Emma Thompson was in it and despite Will Ferrell's lead role performance. but you know what? he was good in it! plays a serious role for once - a serious role in a comedy film nonetheless, but still serious - and Maggie Gylenhall is even more talented than her brother. Emma was, as usual, a divine presence (although her role was too small), Dustin Hoffman was doing what he does best and Queen Latifah was sadly underused. a very strong concentration of talent in a very strong film. i really liked it. it's awfully literary, too.

Wow, Paulo - that's an interesting mix of cast! I'll have to track it down. The last movie I saw at the cinema was The Queen. I LOVED it, so I went to see it again. Helen Mirren was truly amazing. She held the character so well it was distracting. I think the writers were pretty spot on with the assumed conversations that the Queen and Tony Blair had during the week after Diana's death.

yea. Helen Mirren was indeed amazing, but i thought the whole plot of the film was a little superficial. i mean, the character of the queen basically does nothing but react to the environment outside her. i know it must be very hard to write conclusive feelings about a person who's so private and also alive (cuz it means you can't just wander away), but from a historical standpoint i was expecting a little more. still think Helen deserves the Oscar for her performance, she was amazing.
and do track Stranger than Fiction down (i think it's out on dvd in some parts of the world already), cuz it's definetely worth seeing. one of the best films i've seen recently, if not the best.

Last movie I saw at the cinema was Babel. Really powerful at times and very thought-provoking. Not exactly very nice portraiture of Americans, so be warned. It's over 2 hours long, but for once I thought the length was justified.
I seem to be in Mexican-directors mode. I'm absolutely kicking myself for missing 'Children of Men', and the thing I most want to see at the moment is Pan's Labyrinth.

Pan's Labyrinth is a gorgeously tragic, beautifully violent fairytale, and possibly one of my favorite movies ever after watching it last weekend. What I'm saying is, DON'T miss it.

Orfeo, hope you get to see Children of Men. It was excellent.
The last movie I watched was Syriana. The first time I felt like I actually needed subtitles to understand everything :/ The talking was just so "technical" and natural that I'm sure a lot of it flew by me. But it was a good movie.
