I went to see Pan's Labyrinth the day after my mom passed away, it was pretty neat. Though I thought more information on the labyrinth and the creatures there would've been super awesome. Otherwise I thought it to be pretty darn sweet. xo

Well, I got to see Pan's Labyrinth on the weekend. While it was good, I confess to being a tiny bit disappointed. The way people had talked about it, I expected to be blown away.l
In particular, I definitely had been led to expect more of the fantasy element. That's what's been pushed all the time. But in reality, it is much of a war movie - a blunt, brutal, horrifyingly effective one, certainly - which is not how it's been billed.
I mean, there was this talk about the creatures that gave me the impression of a whole cavalcade of them. I kept wondering why the picture of the one monster was in so many of the reviews and promotional articles. Now I understand why:
(a) it's a stunning creation (b) it was either that or the damn toad
There were definitely moments where I was really capitvated by this movie, but it was only moments, not the entire thing. To me, Babel was a better movie because it had me from beginning to end.

^ I agree with you totally, Trev. Shaun also said that he thought it was more of a propaganda/war film, with a fantasy twist. It's being labeled as fantasy when it's not entirely. It was still awesome. xo
