Ok so what we have here is a dual-purpose thread: To gush about Kate Bush, and to talk about her new album. For the first part, um, KATE ROCKS. No, seriously, I'll gush later... brain is dead from data entry right now. However! In my never-ending quest to better serve my employer here at Wells Fargo, I came across some info while surfing the OTHER forum I go to - apparently Kate's new album is coming out! The street date is supposedly 10/18/05 in the US, though I haven't seen this confirmed elsewhere. AHHHH what will Kate sound like in the 21st century?! I'm waiting anxiously to find out And oh, I'll post this in the main forum too, but someone said something about Kate on that other forum that I found to be absolutely accurate: "kate makes in one song what most artists take a whole album, or even a career to make."

...except the Red Shoes was crap.
I'm sorry, but it WAS. I got given four Kate albums as a present, and three of them are really good, but that one... ugh. How she fell so far from the heights of The Sensual World is beyond me.
Um, yeah, I'll be interested in the new album though, particularly because it will make a great candidate for a Christmas or birthday present for my best friend if he doesn't find out about it. He's not much of a Net surfer, but he lives in the UK and there might be a bit of media attention.

I for one love The Red Shoes. i love all her albums. how anyone can think stuff like Moments Of Pleasure, Song Of Solomon and You're The One are crap is beyond me. but oh well, to each their own. IMO that album only has one weak track, which is Big Stripey Lie.

Geeeet gushing, because new news were posted:
"Kate's new album AERIAL will be released on November 7th. Kate's new single KING OF THE MOUNTAIN is out on October 24th!"
And guess what. We're talking about a double-album here.
All I can say right now to those news is WAHHHHHHHHH!
The excitement is killing me! I'm so used to hearing Kate in her old atmospheres (mainly with that 80s slide bass and Fairlight synths), so the best thing about waiting for this new album is that I have no idea what to expect. Heeeee!
Oh, and I never got into Red Shoes or Sensual World, either. I mean, I love the songs This Woman's Work and Sensual World, but somehow the atmosphere on those albums was a bit too erm... 80s.
I like her younger stuff the best, maybe because of the topics and the silly literary allusions and weird experimentations. My favorite album is probably The Dreaming, but Never for Ever comes as a close second, only switching places with The Hounds of Love every now and then.
Oh, and Coffee Homeground is the silliest song to sing along to when you're making coffee at home. Remeeember ze Germaaan accent...lalalalaaa.

I just read this in another forum.... I'm static!!!! This is like, a Tori Amos release kind of excitement, but quadrupled! I could so totally die right now. Well, I couldn't, cuz I need to hear the album first!
Anyway, speaking of her older records, my favorite is The Dreaming followed by Hounds Of Love. i don't have a least favorite, i love them all equally, only those 2 have a certain distinction among them.

Eeeeh! I'm screaming like a litte fan girl! Oh well, just on the inside. Thanks so much for those links, Mary!
I'm part of the livejournal Kate Bush community called Gaffa, and lately the place has been cutely nuts. Only about a month ago, when people were posting things like "Oooh, she'll come out with a new album this year", everyone would reply with a wave of a hand and the classic "That's what she's been saying for years" (which is true). Everybody was just so sceptical--which made the announcement of this new album and its doubleness even crazier: everyone just came in to post EEEEEEEEEKKKKK NOOOOOO YEAAAAAA *cryyyyyyyy*, hihihihihih. What a frenzy after a grumpy hibernation.

IMO that album only has one weak track, which is Big Stripey Lie. I think Big Stripey Lie is ok. For me, Constellation of the Heart is pretty weak. It's the one I always want to skip! And I'll admit it's hard for me to get into the album when it opens with Rubberband Girl. Not one of my favorite Kate openers at all. MOP is good and I love the music of You're The One but I think the lyrics of the song are, well, predictable and blah. I think WSILY, Top Of The City, And So Is Love, and TRS are my favorite songs. I will agree that The Sensual World - a beautiful and intimate album- is a far superior to TRS, but I still wouldn't call TRS crap! Hounds Of Love will probably always be my favorite. I'm excited to have brand new Kate songs (wouldn't that be super funny if she still sounded trapped in the 80s?! haha) to put into my Kate iTunes playlist, but man the ordering is going to be tough. It took me forever to order what I have now!

Heeey, the new single has been aired on the radio! Has anyone caught it yet?
I haven't, but I have read the lyrics. I also read a comment by a fan who had heard the song, saying "It's nothing like Red Shoes. Thankfully", so Trevor--you might want to give this new song a listen, too, when you can ;D

I have heard the single now, and was actually surprised. It's very Kate, yet not that gripping. An odd choice for a single, I think. Of course the vocals sound awfully muddled due to the compression--can't wait for the "real" thing to hit the shelves! Someone speculated that the single was actually her reply to all the sceptics who didn't think she would come back. Interesting... then I wouldn't wonder any more why this was the single. And yup, Kate could make a good Elvis-impersonator. Oh yeah and this... Wanna see new promo pics of her???(clickity click that one)
