I think Big Stripey Lie is ok. For me, Constellation of the Heart is pretty weak. It's the one I always want to skip! And I'll admit it's hard for me to get into the album when it opens with Rubberband Girl. Not one of my favorite Kate openers at all. Partially agree. You're right in saying Rubberband Girl isn't a good album opener (even worse lead single, for that matter, but it was pretty commercial, which i think is what her record company was going for), although it's not a bad song. But I really like Constellation Of The Heart. it's kinda geeky as a song, but if you close your eyes and picture a video to it - i do that with every song - it turns out a lot better. Top Of The City, which is already a great song, gets even better when you imagine a video. But Moments Of Pleasure is still the best, IMO. The only one there that feels like "old school" Kate. Kinda reminds me of This Woman's Work, like a second part of the song. They're both about her mother, who died in between them, so maybe there's a connection. wouldn't that be super funny if she still sounded trapped in the 80s?! haha hmm, funny you should've said that, cuz it does kinda sound like it! don't you also think KOTM could've been a track on The Sensual World? i instantly saw - oh rather heard - similarities between this new song and the music on that album... i guess that's why it's so great, i love TSS.

See what I mean?? That first picture looks almost exactly like the cover of The Sensual World! by the way, THANK YOU for that link, i love the photos!!!!!! ps. AND THERE'S A TRACKLISTING!!!Disc One: A SEA OF HONEY 1. King Of The Mountain 2. Pi 3. Bertie 4. Mrs. Bartolozzi 5. How To Be Invisible 6. Joanni 7. A Coral Room Disc Two: A SKY OF HONEY 1. Prelude 2. Prologue 3. An Architect's Dream 4. The Painter's Link 5. Sunset 6. Aerial Tal 7. Somewhere In Between 8. Nocturn 9. Aerial PPP (that's Personal Point of View): i'm personally a liiiiiittle bit disappointed that she pulled a Pink Floyd on us and will release a 2-disc set with so few songs. i'll be even MORE disappointed if all songs aren't at least 7 or 8 minutes long. nothing else would justify releasing a disc with only 7 tracks on it! there'd better be a hell lot of extras on the enhanced portion of the cd too.

Hihihihih. Helen: Have you seen any of Kate's older videos? She's a total drama queen/eye-roller/smirky smirk in a lot of them. So cute. The videos are hilariously entertaining. Paulo: Yay for Kate Bush Luff! I take it you liked the video? At first I thought it was odd that they showed Kate a lot in that sitting down-looking position from her waist up only until someone pointed out to me that it reflects the way how Elvis was shown on some TV channels in the 50s. You know, they didn't want to show him below his waist because he would do all kinds of dirty moves with his hips. I don't know if comparing Elvis and Kate in that respect is just over-analyzing, but I know our Kate is a clever gal and I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was her intention.

I am in total lust with Aerial.... It's a very absorbing album. Both sides are stunning. Bertie is absolutely gorgeous, too! He looks a lot like his mummy, heh! And the actual song is lovely - it seems very Irish. Hmm, I think I'm now a Kate-convert!!

Oh, so there's a picture of Bertie (i still hope his actually name is Robert and not Herbert) in the booklet? i have to wait ten fucking days till i get my album! i ordered it off the internet in a dutch site - cuz obviously EMI isn't releasing the damn thing here till next year, blergh! - and it takes ten commercial days to arrive, so basically i won't hear it till the end of the month! uuuuuugh!

Yep, there's a super-cute picture of Bertie with a straw hat on, and another one of him and Kate underwater wearing goggles. He has her lips for sure!
I'm sorry to hear you have to wait so long, Paulsie. I hope the plane goes faster for you!!

I must say, I'm developing a very personal connection with King Of The Mountain[/b], which strikes me as odd since for a long while, as much as I loved the music, I kept thinking "These lyrics are about Elvis... this is so freaking WEIRD." But, I was listening to it the other day while delving through my mind and exploring a problem I've had over the years, and the song suddently took on an entirely new meaning, each lyric suddenly referenced something from this situation. I'm sure my version of the song has nothing to do with Kate's original meaning, but you know what, that's what I love about music.

I bought the album yesterday.
And I still haven't listened to it. shock! horror!
Why? Well. I'm very nervous, but in a good way. I came from the record store, sat in my chair and looked at the album--the pictures, the cover art, the lyrics, and my god, the birds. And I looked and looked and looked.
K. noticed this and asked: "Aren't you going to listen to it?" When he saw my face he just said "Oh. You're savoring it."
And that's what I've been doing. The CD is right next to me at this very moment, and I shall listen to it as soon as K. wakes up (have I mentioned that my apartment is teeny tiny--even this keyboard sound is probably keeping him from deep sleep?)
So I'll be back with a song-by-song review later because damnit, this album is going to be worth it.
I absolutely love the picture of the clothes line where the sheets turn into birds... I'm a sucker for "mundane things made magical"-type of stuff (hence my recently acquired curiosity towards glamour bombing...).
And Jason--I want to hear your interpretation, too! Because that's what I love about music (and literature): there is a meaning for the creator in there, but the best of them allow their material to make wonders within their listeners and readers.
P.S. Helsie, I love your sig pic! I have that and some others from the same photo shoot (I think) in this Complete Kate Bush music book. She kinda reminds me of the singer from Pretenders with that hairdo and the groovy leather jacket!

Hey there all! If you're interested, I wrote my thoughts down about the album and separate songs in my journal. The entry is public and you can all see it by clicking this. Comments are very welcome! I didn't want to put it here yet in case people who haven't heard the whole album want to hear the songs before reading about them (that's what I did, pretty much). Kinda like spoiling a movie plot! ;D I already have favorite songs...
